Skin Packaging Films
Surlyn

The film is one of the most important components of the skin packaging process. It is the film that holds the product on the board. The film also reinforces the board and provides a glossy surface for enhancing graphics.

Surlyn skin packaging films are known for their clarity, high gloss, puncture resistance, versatility, adhesion and shorter cycle time. Surlyn is available for skin packaging in 1601-2, NWL and HP2000. It is the film of choice in approximately 90% of the carded display skin packaging business in North America.

WHAT IS SURLYN ?

Dupont, the manufacturer of the Surlyn resin, defines surlyn as an ionomer, a thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and meythacrylic acid, crosslinked by ions of sodium and zinc. It is a resin for casting or blowing into film or for extrusion coating. Finally, it is a polyolefin, like polyethylene or EVA, but clearer and tougher. Surlyn is a Dupont registered trademark.

WHY USE SURLYN ?

  1. High clarity and abrasion resistance
  2. Toughness and puncture resistance
  3. Drawability for high profile items
  4. Low shrink force to minimize board curl
  5. Absorbs and dissipates heat quickly for highest possible production speeds
