Description

The ZED SC Series of self-compensating, high-speed, in-line thermoformers has been specifically designed to provide custom formers and in-plant users with the competitive advantages they need today ... and tomorrow!

Advanced form and trim press design, a new self-compensating seal system, plus a state-of-the-art control system with Pentium® power help you take proper advantage of quick-change tooling systems and meet the demands of today's just-in-time and pack-to-order manufacturing environment.

The ZED SC Series thermoformers are rugged enough to run on a continuous production basis.

Features and Benefits

Roll stand/infeed

  • Free standing or machine mounted
  • Sheet dancer/payoff system

  • Double roll holder for 36" dia. rolls
  • Roll lifters


Heating system

  • High efficiency, flat black, far infra-red system standard with individually controlled edge heaters. Outside portions of heaters emit more heat than center section to insure proper sheet drape
  • Heaters move away from sheet into insulated staging areas during shutdowns for safety and to improve heating thermodynamics upon restart
  • Also available:
  • Sheet temperature sensor
  • Sheet drape level sensor
  • Ceramic, quartz, cal-rod and catalytic gas heating systems


Sheet indexing system

  • Servo motor driven pin chain indexer with belt drive provides increased torque for superior accuracy and assists transport of difficult materials (OPS, etc.)
  • Double wide roller pin chain rides in hardened ways for increased accuracy and longevity
  • Dual water cooling channels in each rail insure straightness
  • Adjustable screws allow easy rail width changes and trapezoid layouts
  • Also available:
  • Motorized chain rail adjusters with feedback to computer for automatic positioning

Form Station

  • Exclusive self-compensating seal system reduces set-up times and eliminates form tool, platen and/or toggle shimming during changeovers
  • High stability through low profile 4-post press design
  • Deep draw capability - top & bottom
  • Plug-assist capability to insure even film distribution
  • Extremely heavy duty press design
  • Solid steel, full form area size platens
  • Large diameter posts with bushings
  • Adjustable return stroke limiting prox increases cycle speeds associated with overstroking
  • Also available:
  • "Quick-Change" tooling systems to reduce set-up time to just 5 minutes
  • Custom form area sizes - up to and exceeding 100 inches
  • Full open station for the addition of a punch press, printer, etc.


Trim Station

  • Most powerful 4-post trim press on the market
  • Solid steel, full form-area size platens (up to 6" thick)
  • Exclusive ZED pancake cylinder provides high tonnage trimming with complete control of pressure up to 3,000 psi
  • X-Y trim die adjusters (manual/standard)
  • Also available:
  • Electric trim press positioner for stroke changes
  • Motorized and upgrade versions of X-Y trim die adjusters with feed-back to computer for automatic set-up
  • Higher tonnage trim press: 110, 130, 160, 200 etc. ton available
  • Trim on the mold for thermoformed parts requiring precision tolerances that only cut-in-place forming can provide. An optional higher tonnage forming press replaces the standard press, allowing forming and trimming in the same form station press


Parts stacker (Optional)

  • Finished trimmed parts stacker is simple to operate and uses easy to change hoppers
  • Also available:
  • Automatic counter/unloader system will automatically count, stack and discharge parts based on a preselected count
  • Sheet cut-off system, at end of machine, is designed to cut formed shots between cycles for visual operator inspection and/or manual parts separation and packing


Scrap rewind

  • Standard, heavy-duty, pnuematic scrap rewind
  • Web may also be fed directly into available grinder


Control system

  • Pentium® processor runs Windows based program
  • All machine functions are controlled and easily adjusted via a color touch screen
  • Job memory capabilities with servo, heater, and all timer control settings that can be saved to disk
  • Self-diagnostics and fault indicators with "help" photographs simplify machine operation and maintenance
  • Individual pressure and vacuum control for precision forming
  • Cool blowing circuitry and valving included
  • Also available:
  • Upgrade package replaces standard prox switches with linear encoders and includes complete job memory, expanded SPC, data acquisition, heater control, servo motions, platen and press positionings, etc
